Phantom in Blue: Blue Angels F-4J
The F-4J Phantom served as the backbone for the US Navy’s fighter arm during the decade of the 1970s. The Blue Angels flew them until the gas crisis caused the Navy to replace them with the smaller A-4, to save money.  The Blue Angels US Navy Flight Demonstraton team executes one of their precision manuevres at an airshow, circa the 1972 season. Solo #6 was piloted by Skip Umstead. Art created for a model kit box cover and used with permission.
