Carnelian is the Red, Orange variety of Chalcedony. It is an ancient gemstone which had been used since ancient times. The RED or orange color hue is due to the presence of hematite. Agate is often dyed red in the market place and then imitate and sold as "Carnelian". However, this color is never the same as the natural color of TRUE CARNELIAN.  The last picture shows the sample rough that this gem is cut from. No treatment is done to this stone, NOT EVEN HEAT!
